Saturday, August 30, 2008 Korean tourist plunges to his death
A KOREAN national here in Cebu for vacation died yesterday when he fell from the sixth floor of a hotel in Barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City.
Park Sungsu, 27, arrived in Cebu on Wednesday with his girlfriend and some friends to explore the island province, particularly its tourism sites. But hours after drinking with friends Thursday evening, he was found dead at the back of Crown Regency Hotel, where his group booked rooms on the sixth floor.
Fence
The sharpened bars that served as perimeter fence at the back of the hotel ripped the victim’s left shoulder from his body. He lay face down on the ground, with his left shoulder still hanging from the four-foot perimeter fence.
“There is no sign of a foul play. He and his girlfriend were alone in their room,” said homicide investigator SPO3 Rosilito Jumao-as.
The victim and his group left the hotel that afternoon to visit places in Cebu City. Front desk records said they came back to the hotel with some of them, including the victim, already tipsy at 2:23 a.m.
Police investigation said that at past 5 a.m., Sungsu’s girlfriend, Yang Yosun, 25, looked for him because he was not in their bed when she woke up.
She noticed that the door in their terrace was open and found Sungsun’s body sprawled on the ground below.
“Hubog ra gyod kuno ang victim. They did not have a quarrel that night..so malagmit nga gialimongawan ni siya sa iyang pag bangon unya nahagbong (The victim was reportedly drunk. He might just have fallen off from the room),” Jumao-as said.
He said the group had plans to visit the marine sanctuaries of Lapu-Lapu City and the bird sanctuary in Olango Island. (AIV)
