Saturday, August 30, 2008 Barrita: Hospital for sale By Eddie O. Barrita Small Bites
CEBU City Medical Center (CCMC) is up for sale, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña said.
That’s his way of getting rid of CCMC, tagged a long time ago as a “Mona Lisa” hospital.
If you can’t improve it, sell it.
***
If there’s a buyer, Mayor Osmeña said he’s willing to shoulder half of the termination fees for the hospital’s more than 500 workers.
He will just use the proceeds of the sale to enroll poor city residents to the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (Philhealth).
So you’ll have a city envisioned as “second to none” without its own hospital.
***
I don’t know where poor city residents go for health and medical emergency services because Philhealth doesn’t offer full
hospitalization coverage.
But all is not lost because when Mayor Osmeña is finally able to sell his South Road Properties, he might surprise us by building a modern and well-equipped hospital.

Police raided Thursday Joavan Fernandez’ house, searched it for nearly two hours, but no guns were found.
What, not even a toy gun?
***
Joavan, Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez’s adopted son, admitted in an interview aired over dyHP and dyRF that he owns a gun for personal safety.
“Lisod na kaayo nga maunhan,” he said.
He later said he was misquoted when he simply misspoke.
***
Joavan now says he carries a toy gun, as what his father said.
Who says he won’t listen to his father?
***
They say guns, especially toy guns, don’t kill people; people kill people.
But a wag said a gun helps because you can’t kill too many people by simply yelling “Bang.”
Now, many are asking what type of toy gun Joavan owns.

Those who missed ace broadcaster Choy Torralba over the air lanes should be glad to know he’ll be back on the air over dyRF “Radio Fuerza” from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Monday in his “Tug-ani ang Lungsod” program.
