Bautista, Nietes defend crowns tonight

TWO of ALA Gym’s champions, World Boxing Organization Intercontinental super bantamweight champion Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista and WBO mini flyweight king Donnie “Ahas” Nietes will step in the ring and defend their coveted crowns tonight, in the “Night of Champions” boxing extravaganza at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City.

Bautista (25-1, 18 KOs) will be in his third title defense against another Mexican, Eden “Anestisita” Marquez (16-3-3, 12 KOs).

The 22-year old Boholano has already defeated two Mexican warriors while defending his regional belt. He won against Antonio Meza via unanimous decision last Dec. 8 and knocked out Genaro Camargo in the second round of their battle last April 6.

If Bautista will emerge victorious tonight he will be given the opportunity to fight in the undercard of the mega fight between Filipino boxing superstar Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and the legendary six-division world champion “Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya on Dec .6 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

On the other hand Nietes (22-1-3, 13 KOs), who is the only world champion of the ALA Gym at present, will be confronted by WBO no.9 contender Eddy “Torito II” Castro (12-3-1, 9 KO’s) of Nicaragua.

Nietes is on his first title defense since winning the WBO crown last Sept. 30 against Thai pugilist Pornsawan Kratingdaenggym. He hasn’t fought for almost a year because of different reasons.

If Nietes retains his belt, he will be having his mandatory defense against Daniel Reyes, the WBO no.1 contender of the mini flyweight division.

In the supporting bouts, young up and rising ALA fighter Jason Pagara (14-1, 8 KOs) will be facing Kongdej Sithtrajtrakan (17-15, 6 KOs) of Thailand, Jomanz Omanz (11-1, 6 KOs) of the ALA Gym will be up against Roger Galica (23-9-3, 7 KOs) of Tiger City Stable, ALA Boy Weng Haya (10-1, 5 KOs) will be trading leathers with Ricky Sismundo (10-2, 2 KOs) of Harada Stable, Rey Las Piñas (4-1-1, 1 KOs) of ALA Gym will be skirmishing against Gideon Amba (6-2-2, 3 KOs) of Lapu-lapu, Jerson Mancio (2-0-1) of the ALA Gym will be combating Mario Suson (1-1) of the Elorde Stable and Fil-am JV “The Fight Doc” Tuazon (1-2-2, 1 KO) will be slugging it out against Albert Villacampa (1-2) of Bantayan Islands.
