Saturday, August 30, 2008 SLR drops 2 games to Qatar nat’l team
DOHA - Sta. Lucia Realty put up a tough fight before beaten twice by the Qatar national team in Doha.
The Qatar team, now a force to reckon with in Asian basketball, scored a 59-48 victory in the first game and repeated with a 70-67 win in the second of the two-game goodwill series watched by a big OFW crowd.
The Realtors were swept by the Qataris after pulling off a two-game sweep of their own in the Bahrain stop of their Gulf tour serving as part of their preparation for the
coming PBA season.
The reigning PBA All-Filipino champions end their tour with a game in Dubai tonight.
“Qatar is now one of the best teams in Asia. They gave us a good learning experience,” said Sta. Lucia coach Boyet Fernandez.
No Philippine team in recent memory has won here. Teams which had come here and also beaten by the Qatar national teams include a PBL selection coached by Junel Baculi, Red Bull, the SMC-RP Team and UAAP champion La Salle. (PBA Media Bureau)
