Paquiao: Weight control
By Calixto S. Paquiao

A LOT of us have encountered problems on how we can control our weight. Many successful dieters worry how they can prevent their weight from increasing.

If you are one of those weight conscious individual, here’s a natural and safe appetite suppressant as any dieter knows the hardest part about many dieting is you rarely feel satisfied. So it’s always easy to fall off the diet — eating just “this one snack” in a guilty effort to feel satisfied!

There is a clear biological reason for this. The stomachs of obese people empty out much faster than those of thin people, so best remedy for this hunger pang is to eat fiber.

Although it supplies few calories, high fiber food stays longer in your stomach, isn’t digested and it does give you roughage. That bulk makes you feel full and so you eat less.

My clients consistently report that when they increase the fiber in their diet they find themselves eating much less for the simple reason that it takes them longer to chew their way through the fibrous food.

The second way fiber helps control your appetite is by stabilizing your blood sugar. With no fiber in your diet your blood sugar fluctuates widely as the sugar from your food is immediately absorbed into your blood. The result?

You feel hungry, irritable and have low energy. But fiber added to your meal slows down the absorption of the starches and sugars you eat. So your blood sugar levels don’t peak and fall quickly. Your mood is more even and the need to go on food binges is reduced.

In both these ways fiber makes it easier to stick to your diet and lose more weight.

Where can you get good fiber? That’s easy. The very best source of insoluble fiber, the kind that passes through your digestive tract more or less intact, is wheat bran or oat bran.

If you haven’t eaten oatmeal since childhood, now’s the time to get used to it again. So, let’s go fiber and lose weight!
