Sunday, August 31, 2008 Mixed-Martial Arts gym opens at IT Park
WITH the rising popularity of the sport called Mixed Martial Arts in the Philippines, CJRS Mixed Martial Arts and Fitness Centre opened their gym yesterday at the 4th Floor of the CJRS Point Building in Asiatown IT Park to promote the sport in Cebu City.
Cutting the ribbon for the newly-opened MMA gym was Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) and Brazlian Jiu-jitsu black belt Alvin Agilar and Cebu City Councilor Sylvan “Jack” Jackosalem.
Aguilar wants the CJRS MMA and Fitness Centre to be one of the elite gyms in the country and wants the gym to produce a handful of black belts.
“In the future I hope to graduate a lot of black belts in Cebu,” said the Phlippine Mixed Martial Arts legend. “I want to make CJRS one of the top gyms in the country,” Aguilar said during the opening of the gym yesterday.
Aguilar also plans to bring fighters of URCC to the international MMA scene.
“I want to bring URCC around the globe and make our country a world power in MMA,” said Aguilar, who also serves as the head instructor of the Defense and Tactics Center.
After the quick talk, Aguilar showed the crowd a few techniques, the rear naked choke and guillotine choke.
The head instructor of the gym is Norman Go, a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, who already has two gyms in the city.
The schedules of classes in the CJRS MMA and Fitness Gym are every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. while Go’s other gym in Baseline Sports Complex are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays. (EKA)
