Monday, September 01, 2008 Help prevent crime, youth asked
THIS year’s national crime prevention week (NCPW) celebration on Sept. 1 to 7 calls for the youth’s involvement in crime prevention.
The fete is focused at calling on the youth to walk and work together towards the attainment of lasting peace in every community.
“The NCPW programs and activities this year are aimed at establishing and strengthening the Student Crime Prevention Network,” Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary and National Police Commission (Napolcom) Chairman Ronaldo V. Puno.
A motorcade around the main streets of Cebu City and Mandaue City will kick off the celebration to promote the slogan, “Lakad Kabataan Laban sa Kriminalidad” and the theme, “Kapit-Bisig Kabataan Tungo sa Kapayapaan, Now Na!” A formal launching program will be held at the Mandaue City Sports Complex after a mass and a flag-raising ceremony at the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7.
Presentation
Succeeding activities include the distribution of materials on crime prevention, like leaflets and brochures, among the government employees, students and youth; presentation of Closed Community System at Bulacao, Talisay City; Capability Enhancement Seminar for barangay tanods and police officials at the Negros Oriental Provincial Capitol, Dumaguete City and the Ugnayan ng Mamamayan at Pulisya at the PRO7 Multi-Purpose Hall, Cebu City.
The member-agencies of the Association of Regional Executives of National Government Agencies and public and private schools are encouraged to display streamers throughout the celebration.
The provinces, cities and municipalities will also organize their respective activities pursuant to DILG’s memorandum dated July 17.
The memo urges all Napolcom regional directors, DILG regional and provincial directors, city and municipal local government operations officers, all provincial governors, city and municipal mayors and chairpersons of the regional, provincial, city and municipal peace and order councils to actively support the projects and activities of the NCPW.
The NCPW is celebrated nationwide every first week of September, as mandated by Proclamation 461, to generate community awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of crime prevention and foster interest and participation of the general public, especially the youth. Further, it aims towards the protection of our daily living environment.
It is a great opportunity to remind everyone that there are lots of things people can do to help keep the community safer throughout the year and onwards.
