Old casino developer confident project will be completed on time

A HOLLYWOOD-style disco club that is set to become operational in early December is seen to support the tourism industry in Cebu.

The Don Christo K. disco club is still in the “early stage” of renovating the old casino at Nivel Hills in Lahug, Cebu City.

Don Christo K. Inc. founder Chris Karageorges, a British national, told a press conference yesterday that he is confident that the disco club will open before Christmas.

The entertainment facility will employ at least 300 individuals, including those who will occupy administrative and managerial positions, like executive secretary to the chairman, food and beverage manager, entertainment manager, and other hospitality-related jobs.

Karageorges said he is optimistic that local residents from the A, B and C market segment will patronize Don Christo’s facilities, which will include an open-air garden restaurant, nightclub and disco, among others.

Describing the local market as “vibrant,” Karageorges said he expects “several thousands” of customers to visit the disco club, especially on weekends, once the facility is operational.

“Always, in every country, the local people are the best buyers because they come in masses, they are stable clients and they have money,” he said, adding that he will invest Euro5 million for the renovation of the old casino.

He said the renovation of the old building is in its early stage. He announced last June the revitalization plans for the old casino building.

Karageorges, however, refused to disclose the names of the contractors that are part of the renovation, saying the company is still coming up with an official list.

“Everyone in the government—from the barangay captain to the mayor—has been supportive of this endeavor,” he said.

The management of Don Christo K. is also planning to host international events every month.

“This is what I can offer to the tourism industry and to Cebu—a facility that they do not have before,” Karageorges said.

He holds a long-term lease of the old casino, which used to be operated by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. until the late 1990s. (NRC)
