Tuesday, September 02, 2008 Power Four By Ritchie Landis Doner Quijano
IF you’re a modernist or a modern art aficionado, there is something for you this week that you shouldn’t be missing.
Tuslob-Buwa Artists Limited, a group composed of four contemporary visual artists, has an ongoing exhibition of brand new art works at a brand new art gallery in Mandaue city.
Anew portfolio of visual art works by Jojo Sagayno, Evan Bejec, Sio Montera and Ritchie Quijano are on view at the Gallery Q along A.S. Fortuna in Mandaue (beside Norkis showroom).
It now seems that when it comes to arts and culture, the industrial city of Mandaue is fast catching up with Cebu. With the newly established Q, art happenings are now well-spread around the island. And it can be the new hub for local artists.
The group show, “Quatro Moderno,” at the Q is testament to the Cebuanos open mindedness towards modernism.
On show are both large and small scale paintings displayed vis-à-vis sculptures.
There’s a range of abstract works in different mediums but mostly are mixed media. The hardwood and mixed media sculptures by Bejec and Quijano are the only pieces at the gallery that comes close to representational.
The paintings, however, are purely in the non-objective genre. It’s the style of abstraction that the group collectively espoused. Gallery Q is a most welcome addition to the art scene. So people check this new place out and try to see the world through art.
