Belande is Cesafi’s Player of the Week

DUE to his outstanding display in his last two games in the past week, Alfred Belande of the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras was named the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament Player of the Week (Pow) for Week 4.

Belande was picked to be the Pow over Sam Hermosa of the University of San Carlos(USC) Warriors and University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancer’s 6-foot-11 behemoth center Greg Slaughter and University of San Jose-Recoletos’ (USJ-R) peppery playmaker Armand Ponce.

Belande averaged 22 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals in his last two games leading the Cobras to two victories against the Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) Wildcats and the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USPF) Panthers boosting SWU’s record to 3-3 after a bad start in the competition.

Belande’s 21 points led SWU to a victory against the Wildcats in what was the most one-sided game for the season, 104- 45. He also scored 22 points against the Panthers. He also has an impressive field goal average of 53 percent and an average of 45.8 statistical points.

Belande has been back to his former self in the past week since the team lost five of its best players from the roster after violating league rules.

Because of Belande’s efforts, the Cobras are fighting for fourth place in the ranking with University of Cebu behind the top team UV, the second ranked USJR and the third seeded USC. (EKA)
