Wednesday, September 03, 2008 SAC-Hapee sports quiz attracts nine early participants
NINE players from six schools have already confirmed their participation in the 1st Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC)-Hapee Sports Quiz set on Sept. 27 at the Ayala Center Cebu Activity Center.
They are Dan Clever T. Gigantone and Mark Anthony Esperida of the University of the Philippines Visayas-Cebu College (UPVCC) High School, Luis Miguel Maximo of Paref-Springdale, Christian Kenneth Otiong of Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School, Sheldon September Divera of Toledo City’s Magdugo National High School, and Abby Niles G. Cuenco and Kevin Clyde Chu of Sacred Heart School-Jesuit (SHS-J).
Bright Academy has also signified its intent to field in two contestants in the first major undertaking of SAC under the leadership of John Owen Z. Pages.
Presented by Lamoiyan Industries, the manufacturer of Hapee Toothpaste, in partnership with RichMedia Digital Ads, the event also serves as one of the highlights of the annual Press Freedom Week celebration slated from Sept. 21 to 27.
Difficulty
The competition is open to all high school students both from public and private institutions in Cebu. Questions are classified into their degree of difficulty. Five points will be awarded to every correct answer in the easy round, 10 in the average, and 20 in the difficult level.
The champion will receive an Asus laptop, while the second and third placers will get mobile phones. MP3 players will he handed out to the fourth and fifth finishers. Plaques of recognition will also be given to the top three performing schools.
Non-winners will not go home empty-handed as they will receive gift packs from Hapee and other potential corporate backers.
SAC, an organization of sport scribes from Cebu’s three local dailies and two tabloids, staged similar contest five years ago through the support of the now defunct Cebu Basketball Federation of which Jack Huang was one of the founders. Huang is responsible for Hapee’s tie-up with SAC for this particular project.
Registration is free but on a first-come-first-served basis as the organizers are limiting the number of entries to only 30.
