Western Union now enforcing ‘One ID policy’ across the country

AS a result of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas ruling last May that lifts the two ID policy for all financial transactions made by banks and non-banks under BSP supervision, The Western Union Company has expanded its list of accepted IDs to include valid student photo IDs for non-voting/minor age students starting this new school year.

“This is indeed welcome news for both Western Union and its customers especially now that classes have started. Students with parents based in the provinces can easily transact through Western Union by simply presenting one valid photo ID,” said Vanessa Bicomong, marketing director, Philippines, The Western Union Company.

Western Union has also lowered its domestic money transfer fees to as low as P19 for transactions amounting to P200 and below. This special promotion, which was launched on May 3, is intended to encourage transactions during the enrollment period.

“We’ve had very encouraging feedback on the Western Union domestic money transfer service because it’s convenient, reliable, and fast. Receivers can get the money within minutes from over 7,100 agent locations in the Philippines. We hope the special promotion rates can allow more consumers in the Philippines, including those who regularly send money to their children studying in other parts of the country, to experience the service.”

Bicomong also shared that now, even employment IDs issued by private companies and government offices and Integrated Bar of the Philippines IDs are also accepted for transactions. Following is the complete list of valid IDs: passport, driver’s license, PRC ID, Integrated Bar of the Philippines ID, NBI clearance, Police Clearance Certificate (Electronic), Postal ID, Voter’s ID, GSIS e-Card, SSS Card, Senior Citizen Card, OWWA ID, OFW ID, Seaman’s Book, Alien Certification of Registration, Firearm license, Employment ID (Government and Private), Student ID (for non-voting/minor age students) and other IDs issued by the government and its instrumentalities (digitized hard plastic type).
