Borbon residents nab pa for beating up daughter, 7

RESIDENTS of a barangay in Borbon, Cebu placed their neighbor under arrest for allegedly beating up his seven-year-old daughter with a piece of firewood.

The father is facing a child abuse case and is detained at the Borbon Police Station.

The incident took place shortly before noon Tuesday.

Insp. Camilo Gonzaga, chief of the Borbon Police Station, said they thought the girl would not survive because of the severe effects of the beating.

“Maayo gani kay naulian pagdala sa hospital (It was a relief that she recovered when taken to the hospital),” Gonzaga said.

Gonzaga said the father had called on the girl but she did not respond.

This prompted him to grab hold of her and beat her up.

The girl’s mother reportedly left them because she did not sit well with the father’s drinking habits.

Since then, the girl and her 10-year-old sibling have been under the care of their paternal grandparents.

Because the grandfather could not control his son’s temper, he ran outside and sought help from his neighbors.

Gonzaga said the girl was wounded and bruised in her back, arms and legs. He could not say what the father wanted with her.

He also could not say if the father was drunk, only that he was able to consume an amount of liquor.

Because of fear, the girl had urinated in her underwear.

Residents said it was not the first time the father beat up his children, but Tuesday’s incident was the worst so far.

Gonzaga said the father kept on asking for forgiveness and asked the police to release him. He was reportedly unaware of the anti-child abuse law.

However, the grandparents were bent on filing a case against their son. The case was filed Wednesday. (MEA)
