Prima 2 dominates first day of national kegfest

TEAM Prima Team 2 started out strong in the Bowlingplex Tenpin Association National Open Bowling Tournament team event as they dominated the opening day Thursday night at the Gaisano Bowlingplex.

The team, manned by some of Cebu’s best junior keglers, bested 12 other teams to lead in the team competition.

Led by Clarence Tiu, John Gasataya and Jericho Jomapao, Prima 2 knocked down a total of 2,543 pinfalls to lead by 25 points over temporary second placer Albert Surplus, which toppled 2, 518 pins.

Tiu led the squad as he finished with a total of 896 pinfalls. Gasataya added 834, while Jumapao tallied an 813 finish on the first night of competition.

Tiu had a game-high of 257 pinfalls for Prima Team 2 in his last outing.

Albert Surplus’ Ed Aniñon Sr. had the best finish for the team with 911 pinfalls, while teammates Clifford Tan and Bel Suelto
Jr. had 832 and 775 pinfalls respectively.

Albert Surplus’s second-place rank is still on shaky grounds as not far behind is Prima Team 1, which is only four pins away at 2,514.

The team is composed of another set of talented juniors bowlers Clark Tiu, Jomar Jumapao and Junjun Gothong.

Jumapao paced the group with 888 pinfalls, Tiu had 867 pinfalls, while Gothong contributed 759 pinfalls.

BTA Men 1 was currently at fourth place with 2,445 total pinfalls, Prima Team 3 was at the fifth spot with 2,386 total pinfalls and Herber Phils was at sixth place with 2,380 total pinfalls.

Meanwhile, the Singles competition, which is exclusive to Cebu City players will be played this afternoon, while the singles contest for out-of-towners will be tonight.

The top 36 players of the tournament will face off in the Masters Event slated tomorrow. (EKA)
