Sunday, September 07, 2008 Springdale beats Cebu IS, 3-1
Favorites Paref-Springdale overpowered Cebu International School (CIS), 3-1, in a very physical and competitive football match of the Boys Secondary division of the Milo Little Olympics yesterday, at the Cebu City Sports Complex.
Paref-Springdale didn’t waste anytime and was quick on the offensive end as forward Bryan Go scored a breakaway goal in the first minute of regulation.
After 15 minutes, Darell Caballero of CIS retaliated with a strike that bounced of the hands of the Paref-Springdale goalie and tied the game at 1-1.
Approaching the end of the first half, defender Gabriel Rodriguez contributed a goal to increase Paref-Springdale’s lead to 2-1.
With Paref-Springdale exercising a one-goal advantage, CIS was aggressive offensively and had a couple of shots on target but just couldn’t hit a goal.
Final goal
In the waning minutes of the game, Rodriguez scored another goal which sealed the victory for Paref-Springdale.
Meanwhile, in other games of the Boys Secondary division Bright Academy trampled St. Dominic, 9-0; Cebu City National Science High School (CCNSHS) conquered Lyceum de Cebu in a very lopsided 14-0 victory; Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion (CIC)-Mandaue triumphed over Cebu Institute of Technology, 4-1; and Sacred Heart School-Jesuits edged BJS, 2-1.
On the other hand, in the girls Secondary division, Saint Theresa’s College crushed CIC, 11-0; Bright Academy won against Center for International Education, 4-0 and CIS flattened CCNSHS, 7-0.
In the elementary boys division, Bright Academy defeated CIC, 3-1; Canduman Elementary School destroyed St. Paul, 11-0; and Lapu-lapu Central School held University of San Carlos scoreless, 2-0. (EKA)
