UC, USC battle separate foes in quarterfinals

THE University of San Carlos Warriors and University of Cebu Webmasters seek to formalize their entry to the semifinal round of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc (Cesafi) when they battle separate quarterfinal foes today at the Cebu Coliseum.

USC and UC teams are in the Top 4—USC at third and UC at fourth—giving them a twice to-beat-edge in the quarterfinals. They are hoping not to have to resort to using that edge for them to join early semifinalists University of the Visayas Green Lancers and University of San Jose Recoletos, who trounced separate rivals last week to enter the next round.

After weeks of being idle, USC gets back into the battle field, where it locks horns with Don Bosco College Greywolves today. UC on the other hand will be playing Southwestern University in a rematch of their elimination round fight.

USC will still be playing with pivot man Enrico Llanto but head coach Jay Ramirez will be banking on Giovanni Padillo and Sam Hermosa, who had proven to be revelations, when they stepped up during Llanto’s absence.

UC meanwhile, hopes to repeat its elimination round win over the SWU Cobras today. Both squads battled for the right to be in the Top 4 slot.

UC won that round, 91-86 and SWU is expected to put up a fight. Still nursing from the loss of five of its members, the Cobras will have to contend with the ones left on the roster. SWU will be banking on Alfred Belande, Cliford Maguate, Ardd Diango and Chris Litorja. (MCB)
