Wednesday, September 10, 2008 P400M feed mill starts production in Mindanao
A NEW feed mill in Iligan will be producing 100,000 metric tons of animal rations a year, thus assuring the availability of fresh feeds in the Visayas and Mindanao markets.
The Pilmico Iligan Feedmill began its operations just this month. The facility, located in Kiwalan Cove in Iligan City, was inaugurated last Sept. 4 by Sen. Mar Roxas and Pilmico chief operating officer Antonio Moraza.
The feed mill uses Dutch technology, tapping Ottevanger Milling Engineers B.V. to supply, install and commission the feed mill equipment. Pilmico had the P400-million facility built to be expanded in the next six to 12 months.
Fil-Am Foods, a subsidiary of Pilmico, is providing the technical expertise to run the Iligan feed mill and market the feeds.
Moraza, in a press conference at the Iligan plant just before the inauguration, said that the feed mill is starting at its full capacity, producing 20 tons of animal feeds for hogs and poultry per hour.
The Iligan plant ensures a more efficient animal husbandry in the Visayas and Mindanao because raisers can now avail of fresh feeds faster, Moraza said.
Before the Iligan feed mill was operated, Pilmico had relied on its manufacturing plant in Capas, Tarlac to address the market in the Visayas and Mindanao.
According to a company statement, Pilmico produces simple swine base feeds as a byproduct of its core flour milling operations.
With the Iligan feed mill now running, Pilmico can produce animal feeds from a variety of raw materials. The feed mill is seen as helping the industry’s ability and capacity to produce crude grains as well as bolster the local economy of Iligan. (MPS)
