Tickets will be sold starting Sept. 25 and for a duration of one month, ticket buyers can avail of the Early Bird special promo.

You must have already heard or read about the newest beauty contest to be launched in the country, the Turismo Pilipina 2008. No less than four beauty queens (one of them an international one no less) met the press last Sunday at the Cebu Parklane Int’l. Hotel to announce the details of the contest.

The founders, Ms. International ‘05 Precious Lara Quigaman, Bb. Pilipinas-Unvierse ‘02 Karen Loren Agustin-Ostrea and Bb. Pilipinas-Int’l. ‘06 Denille Lou Valmonte with Bb. Pilipinas-World ‘06 and Turismo Pilipina Visayas screening committee head Ana Maris Igpit, divulged that the pageant is aimed at embracing and showcasing the beauty in diversity of the country and making the winner the ambassador of Philippine tourism.

Needless to say, the winner and her court plus the special awardees will receive handsome cash prizes, among others. Natural born single Filipinas aged 18 to 25, at least 5’5” tall, high school grad, of good moral character and knowledgeable about the country especially the tourism aspect can download the application form at turismopilipina.com.ph and submit it with pictures at the Lahug branch of Coffee Dream.

Deadline is today. Oh, is that sad? Well, as the expression goes: ‘wa tay mahims.’ Good luck, anyway.

Interested parties may text or call 09225325310 for more details.

I received an e-mail from a friend a couple of months back about an unfortunate incident when Wowowee was brought to the US in July. I purposely deferred writing about it because I wanted to hear the side of ABS-CBN first.

My contact said that as far as the network is concerned, the show’s stars and staff were practically just performers because it was the producers and organizers, Calla Lilly Entertainment Productions, that called the shots, from ticket selling to organizing the show including the choice of contestants.

The unfortunate part was that the organizers’ system had so many flaws such that the winner of the Pera o Bayong portion was not an official contestant who got a call from the production staff but was merely accompanying a friend who got the call but when he checked his name was not in the list due to the said flaws.

The “unofficial contestant,” so to say, obviously had the guts to squeeze his way to the final line-up and became the eventual winner. The more unfortunate portion was that when he won the grand prize, a Honda car, he promised to share the proceeds with his friend whom he accompanied with but, later on, the winner changed his mind and ruined the friendship of the two families.

That was, more or less, two months back. I wonder if the situation worsened or has been patched up.

Another pageant is coming our way. This time it’s the male pulchritude that’s given focus.

This one is the Mr. Cebu 2008 which will be held sometime next month. Last week, the 16 good looking contestants acted as live mannequins to the creations of the members of the Clothes for Life Inc., an organization of Cebu’s respected and sought-after designers, in a show called One for Tomorrow which was also the induction of the organizations new set of officers led by its prexy, Harley Ruedas.

Held at the Pagcor Cebu Teatro Casino, hosted by the famous and glamorous Jude Bacalso and directed by Mark Masa, the affair was also graced by members of the print and broadcast media and Pagcor execs. It was a huge success, needless to say.Congratualtions and more power, Clothes for Life!
