Saturday, September 13, 2008 Bonsucan catapults Banilad ES to win column
SOME schools send token representative to the Milo Little Olympics without expecting anything from their athletes. Some never make it through the first round.
However, Banilad Elementary School-Mandaue proved that they were not mistaken in sending Ralph Bonsucan to the meet as he led his school to barge into the gold medal column of the sporting meet after winning the elementary boys badminton competition last weekend over Bethany Christian School’s Andre Uytengsu, 21-11, 21-4 in their finals.
Uytengsu settled for silver. Nequine Cepada of St. Joseph College and Ulyross Lopez of City Central School shared the bronze.
With the lone medal, Banilad Elementary School joins the other gold medal winners in the standing.
Meanwhile, Lindsay Solomon also won St. Benedict’s first gold medal after winning the girls division over Rose Maica Canales of St. Joseph School of Maasin, 21-5, 21-7. Michaela Abellana of Asian College of Technology and Christine Bolo of St. Benedict share the third place.
Meanwhile, 500 taekwondo jins will be battling for top honors when the event opens at the Cebu Doctors’ University gym.
The athletics events will wrap up with a total of 26 titles up for grabs. The girls football finals will be this afternoon with Milo old-timers Cebu International School and first-time contenders St. Theresa’s College fighting for the title. (MCB)
