Cesafi stars take stage

AFTER completing the semifinals roster of the collegiate and high school divisions of the basketball competition of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc., (Cesafi) the league takes a breather with the Cesafi All-Star games today at the Cebu Coliseum.

Expected to hog the limelight in today’s event is the match-up of Cesafi’s twin towers University of the Visayas’ 6-foot-11 pivot Greg Slaughter and University of Cebu’s 6-foot-9 center Junmar Fajardo, who will lead their respective teams in today’s All-Star game of the college division at 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, also featured today are the slam dunk competition and the three-point contest among players, who posted impressive statistics in these areas in the past weeks.

Former slam dunk king Junjun Lasala of UV, is set to reclaim the crown as he leads other hopefuls in the slam dunk competition.

Lasala’s performance last year paled in comparison to Southwestern University’s Eric Zanoria, who eventually went home with the title. Now with Zanoria out of the picture, Lasala, who has been showing hints of his old self, is expected to lead against other hopefuls including Fajardo and Slaughter, UC’s Edward Pao and Kevin Quilantang, USJ-R’s Abulaiz Sulaiman and USPF’s Elwin Durano.

Three-point king

Meanwhile, battling for the three-point shootout title are USC’s Mike Cantonao and Emel Rowe, SWU’s Alfred Belande and Chris Litorja, UV’s Von Lañete, Chris Diputado and Rithcum Dennison, UC’s Jannsen Abella, Robinson Mohamad and Kim Gomez, CIT’s Eulogio Lamosa and Karenrick dela Cerna, Don Bosco’s Rickmar Perturbos, USJ-R’s Lyndon Gudez and USPF’s Nuevo Filoteo, Moncrief Rogado and Jeffrey Laurente.

Like last year, Chester Cokaliong, will also be a guest competitor.

Meanwhile, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Baby Panthers was the final addition to the list of semifinalist in the juniors division after ousting the hardworking University of San Carlos Baby Warriors, 75-66, in their rubbermatch last Thursday.

USPF joins early semis qualifiers UV Baby Lancers, UC Baby Webmasters and CIT Wildkittens.

The Top 4 in the college division are UV Green Lancers, USJ-R Jaguars, USC Warriors and UC Webmasters. (MCB)
