Saturday, September 13, 2008 Domingo confident in winning defense
WORLD Boxing Organization Oriental bantamweight champion Michael Domingo will have his first title defense tomorrow morning at the Cebu Coliseum against former WBO bantamweight champion Ratanachai Sor Vorapin of Thailand in the in SGG Promotions “Day time Boxing: Philippines vs. Thailand”.
This is the greatest trial for the 29-year-old ALA pugilist, yet, because this will dictate the direction of his career if he deserves the world title shot that he has long been seeking.
Domingo, a native of Sultan Kudarat, is convinced that he can defeat the veteran Thai fighter who suffered two losses from current WBO bantamweight champion Gerry Peñalosa.
“I’m confident with this fight. He has a lot of experience but I too have a lot of experience. He is old and I’m not afraid of him,” Domingo told Sun.Star Cebu.
Domingo will be entering this fight with a record of 36-14-2 with 15 knockouts while Sor Vorapin boasts a record of 73-10 with 49 knockouts.
In the main supporting bout, Filipino warrior Joel Dela Cruz (10-5, 4 KOs) will also face an ex-world titlist Somsak Kokietgym (57-3-1, 44 KOs) formerly known as Somsak Sithchatchawal.
Dela Cruz said in a yesterday’s final press conference at the Cebu Grand Hotel that he will do everything in his power to beat the former World Boxing Organization bantamweight titleholder.
“I will do everything to win against him,” said Dela Cruz who will be in a 10-round battle with Kokietgym. (EKA)
