Costanilla: Cebu Chamber Singers: going to Vienna
By Sam Costanilla

CEBU will soon have a world-class five-star entertainment center that will feature nightly variety shows. The place will definitely open in December in Nivel Hills, Lahug, this city. I already met thrice with Chris Karageorges, chairman and president of Doncristo Inc. He told me that the entertainment center will also have several restaurants, including an open-air paradise garden restaurant, as well as bars and a patisserie outlet.

THIS is a welcome development because the Doncristo entertainment center, once open, will become a venue for local performers and talents whose skills and artistry are comparable to their foreign counterparts. We should thank Karageorges for renovating the old Casino Filipino just a few meters away from Marco Polo Plaza in line with his intention to transform the defunct gambling place into the Doncristo entertainment center. “There will be no gambling here; only world-class entertainment by local, Manila-based and international artists,” Karageorges told me.

HE also asked me to plug here that as of now, he is in need of interested applicants for such positions of executive secretary, human resource officer, entertainment manager, disc jockey, food and beverage manager, public relations and marketing manager, purchasing manager, resident accountant, chief security officer, property officer, head chef and utility workers. Their monthly pay is substantial enough. Those wanting to apply may visit Karageorge’s website (www.doncristo.com) or his e-mail address (doncristoinc@yahoo.com) or call 5161001 or 5162121.

THE Cebu Chamber Singers (CCS) is staging a fund-raising concert on Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. in SM Cinema 1. We should not miss this event because watching it is actually helping the choir go to Vienna, Austria. The choir will bring the name of Cebu during a major choral singing competition there next month. To recall, the group’s very first major achievement beyond the local scene was winning two gold awards in the Asian Choir Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, held last Nov. 10. So let’s all watch the CCS fund-raising show on Oct. 11 and be delighted. Ticket outlets are Smile Dental Spa at SM City Northwing and Dennis Muzikhaus in Tabok, Mandaue City.

WHILE we here in Cebu are still observing Press Freedom Month, let me emphasize once again that the “reinvented” Cebu Association of Media Practitioners Inc. (Camp Inc.), which is under the leadership of Peace Times publisher Jun Alcover, is not allowing solicitations from its officers and members without any authorization coming from him, this writer (as club vice president) and Engr. Ed Batiquin, our treasurer. I urge the general public to call or text me first before any amount is given to anybody claiming to be a Camp officer or member. Our club needs your cooperation especially when it comes to unauthorized solicitations. We don’t want people to use the name of the legitimate media in their nefarious activities or dubious money-making ventures.

THE producer of a local show would have wanted to sue a marketing guy for committing a serious infraction weeks before the event. However, cooler heads succeeded in asking the producer to forgive and forget.
