Cebu student killed in clash
Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña led a crowd of over 200,000 in yesterday morning’s 2008 Alay Lakad. Overall chairman Renato Aquino said that while they could give an exact count of participants in two to three days yet, they believe it was the largest turnout in years. For every participant, the Cebu City Government gives a P6-donation to the Alay Lakad Foundation which uses the amount for scholarships and skills training programs. (Sun.star photo/Amper Campaña)
TWO Cebu residents were killed in an encounter between suspected New People’s Army (NPA) members and 79th Infantry Battalion (IB) soldiers in Sitio Langub, Barangay Malungcay Dako, Dauin, Oriental Negros last Thursday.

Authorities identified them as Rachelle Mae Palang, 21, of Barangay Poblacion, Consolacion town and Jerry Cabungcag of Sitio Mabuhay, Barangay Luz, Cebu City.

A third casualty was identified as Federico “Edong” Villalongha.
