No work, no classes on Oct. 1

MALACAÑANG declared Oct. 1, Wednesday, a regular non-working holiday in observance of the Eid’l Fitr, or the end of Ramadan.

President Arroyo, issuing Proclamation 1625 dated Sept. 19, said the observance of the holiday is part of efforts to promote a cultural understanding and integration and
at the same time enjoin everyone to join the Muslim community in their celebration.

“In order to bring the religious and cultural significance of Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, it is necessary to declare Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, a regular holiday throughout the country,” she added in the proclamation.

Eid’l Fitr is celebrated by the Muslim community for three days after the end of the holy month of fasting, which started last Sept. 1. (Sunnex)
