Thursday, September 25, 2008 Utzurrum: New: RCMC’s stewards, BPI’s image By Chinggay V. Utzurrum The scene
THERE was a change in stewardship at the Rotary Club of Metro Cebu (RCMC) when they held their 30th installation of officers and new members, and celebrated Charter Day Anniversary at the Teatro Casino of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.
A joint induction of the RCMC and The Association of Rotary Spouses (Tars) with the Rotary theme, Make Dreams Real, had past district governor (PDG) Joseph "Yumi" Espina inducting new Rotarians.
Installation of RCMC officers and directors, and Tars officers and directors were done by district governor nominee (DGN) Teodoro Locson and PDG Anton Florendo, respectively.
Past RCMC president Dr. Wyben R. Briones, then proudly showed a powerpoint presentation of RCMC’s exemplary community thrusts, namely: Hope, Life and Light projects, and all for the upliftment of the less fortunate and sickly among us. Indeed, guests were misty-eyed at the video.
Congratulations are then in order for the following: Year 2008-2009 president Susan U. Valmayor; president elect Andres A. Llanos Jr.; president nominee Jose Z. Flordelis, M.D.; vice president Andres Llanos Jr.; secretary Lewis G. Campbell; treasurer Floram C. Limotlimot; a auditor Lambert L. Lim; Sgt. at Arms Frank C. Crijns; Service Above Self, Wyben C. Briones; Youth Service, Vicente C. Balbuena; Public Relations, Eddie O. Barrita; Rotary Family, Barbara S. Cortes; International Service, Joshua P. Hatcher; Club Membership, Danilo A. Quinto; club administrator, Rodolfo Y. Cabrera ; and the Rotary Foundation, Gema Luisa Pido.

When we arrived at the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) branch along Osmeña Boulevard one morning, what greeted us was a bright and bouncy logo: red background with white letters!
When we entered the premises, there was a burst of color that replaced the antique, dull off-white walls. Etched on the rust-brown and vermilion walls was a galleon, as in the Galleon Trade of yesteryears. Wow, a welcome change and a refreshing look!
Physical changes are not the only thing BPI will introduce.
They will embark on an aggressive stance that will focus on the customer, and will expand their locations to accommodate their thousands of clients in 827 branches nationwide.
We hail BPI’s revolutionary look, and look forward to more personalized service!

When the affluent Luzon family decided to congregate for five days in August, it was to promote team-building, family visioning and healing of the family tree. And the prime movers of this gargantuan task were dynamic teammates Maria Lowe, Nida Rabina, Agnes Rabina, Anna-Leen Lontoc, Jackie Lim and Joel Del Prado.
They even came up with a theme, “Luzon – Tatak pag-ibig, Kasipagan, Kaunlaran at Paglilingkod,” when they got together in
three venuesn namely Maribago Bluewater Resort in Mactan, Bogtongbod, Clarin and at the Mabuhay ballroom of Diplomat Hotel, Cebu.
Part of the agenda was a courtesy call on Vice Mayor Michael Rama, who emphasized the God-fearing qualities of honesty and discipline.
With this very successful family reunion, their late grandparents — Emedio and Agapita, fondly called Papa Pedio and Mama Pitang, and for whom this tribute was made — were surely beaming from Up There. Let’s have more, huh, kids!

Which brings to mind another reunion; this time of Theresian classmates from faraway California.
This was when members of high school class 1962 met to chat, giggle, and plan their next activity. Hostess was Maribel Kokseng-Kratz, who was celebrating a milestone in her palatial home in West Covina.
As of press time, Maribel’s in town to be with mom, Connie Uytengsu-Kokseng on her birthday, and to be madrina at a niece’s wedding. Hello, Maribel!
