Versoza is next nat’l police chief

DEPUTY Director General Jesus A. Versoza will take over the highest post in the Philippine National Police (PNP) this Saturday when Director General Avelino Razon Jr. retires from the service.

Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Ronald Roderos announced this during yesterday’s monthly Talakayan sa Isyung Pulis (Tsip).

President Arroyo will officially install Verzosa as the 15th Chief of the PNP in a ceremony in Malacañang. The ceremony also marks the retirement of outgoing PNP Chief Razon, who rendered military and police service for 34 years.

After the ceremony, a command conference with all the top police officials in the country will follow, where Versoza is expected to announce his plans for the PNP.
Roderos is scheduled to attend the conference.

PMA graduate

Verzosa, a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Magilas” Class of 1976, is the PNP Deputy Chief for Administration, the second in command in the police organization.

He was also the transformation manager and the executive director of the PNP Program Management Office, which took care of the PNP’s 10-year integrated transformation program (ITP). He was born in Dasol, Pangasinan in December 25, 1954.

Upon graduation from the PMA in 1976, Verzosa saw action in the field as platoon leader and later as company commander under the 54th PC Battalion in Tuburan, Basilan and in Parang, Maguindanao during the height of the Mindanao campaign.

Assignments

Upon his return to Luzon, he was assigned to various positions in the PC Metrocom until he returned to the field in 1986 as Chief of the Intelligence and Investigation Branch of the Rizal Philippine Constabulary-Integrated National Police Command.

He also served as District Director of the Criminal Investigation Service in Western Visayas; Commanding Officer of the 358th PC Company in Capoocan, Leyte; Regional Officer of the 4th CIC Regional Office in Southern Tagalog; City Director of the Baguio City Police Office; Regional Officer of the NCR- CIG; Director of the Aviation Security Group; Director of the Intelligence Group; and PNP Regional Director for Cordillera.

Verzosa was also a recipient of Lingkod ng Bayan Award from the Civil Service Commission, two Cavalier Awards from the PMA Alumni Association; and service medals for efficiency, merit, and outstanding achievement. (JTG with reports from the PNP website)
