PARTICIPANTS kept on flowing in with only two more slots left for this Saturday’s keenly-awaited Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC)-Hapee Sports Quiz at the Ayala Center Cebu Activity Center. The contestants are advised to come to the venue early as the quiz will promptly start at 1 p.m.
So far, a total of 26 players from 13 schools have already signed up for the quiz that offers a total of P50,000 in prizes courtesy of Hapee Toothpaste and Richmedia Digital Ads, the event’s chief corporate backers.
The organizers are limiting the number of entries to 30 on a first-come-first-served basis.
Among the early registrants are the University of the Philippines Visayas-Cebu Campus (UPV-CC), Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School (MCCNHS), Magdugo National High School of Toledo City, Sacred Heart School-Jesuit (SHS-J), Paref-Springdale, Cebu Normal University (CNU), University of Cebu (UC), and the University of the Visayas (UV).
The other schools which have signified their intent to join the competition but could not yet release the names of their representatives are the University of San Carlos (USC-NC)-North Campus, University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC), Bright Academy, Southwestern University (SWU), and Abellana National School (ANS).
In the contest proper, 10 questions will be given away per round and are classified into their degree of difficulty. Five points will be awarded to every correct answer in the easy round, 10 in the average, and 20 in the difficult level. The top 10 players will proceed to the final round where another set of 10 questions will determine the top performers.
Non-winners
The champion will receive an Asus Eee PC, while the second and third placers will get mobile phones. Philips Go Gear will be handed out to the fourth and fifth finishers. Plaques of recognition will also be handed out to the schools of the top three winners.
Non-winners will not go home empty-handed as they will receive gift packs and freebies from Hapee. The audience will also have a chance to win some items and Hapee basketballs if they can answer the question that will be thrown in between rounds.
Held as one of the highlights of the annual Press Freedom Week celebration, the sports quiz is the first major activity of SAC under the flagship of John Z. Pages.
