Go: My style
By Charlene Go
Lakwatsa

I AM not the most fashionable person around. Anybody can tell you that, but I do like to dress in a manner that I am most comfortable, in which case wearing flip flops most of the time.

Each individual’s style is influenced by his or her environment or interests. But whether you are a fashionista or not, I bet you own a pair of Havaianas in your shoe rack.

From the elite, to the ordinary Jane or Joe, these Brazilian rubber flip flops have created a craze around the world. They are comfortable and stylish but not only that; every now and then, Havaianas gives us the chance to make a pair (or more) that we can name our own.

Last weekend, I made my way to the Northwing of SM City Cebu for “Make Your Own Havaianas 2008” (MYOH). This is the third MYOH held in Cebu but this time with more embellishments to create your own unique pair.

As I entered the cordoned area of the Northwing, hundreds of Havaianatico’s gathered in sheer excitement to create their own customized pair. I was astonished to see such a crowd but I think I was even more overwhelmed when I found out that some of these fans waited in line for up to eight hours to complete their stylish work of art.

It only proves that these chic rubber flip flops are not only a trend but they have become a lifestyle for many. I for one would have to say that it is wardrobe staple. There is nothing more consistent about my daily attire than a pair of Havaianas!

While some people spent their weekend creating a pair of fashion flip flops, others took a road trip to San Remegio to stretch out a helping hand.

A few months ago, y101 arranged a “radiothon” and a golf event, Skins 4 Heart, to unite the Cebuanos to raise funds or donate relief goods for the victims of typhoon Frank. The y101 crew, spearheaded by CEO Martha Tuason, distributed these goods at the San Remegio Municipal Hall to assist over 1,300 families in the area.
