Saturday, September 27, 2008 SAC holds Sports Quiz today
EVERYTHING is already in place for today’s Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC) -Hapee Sports Quiz at the Ayala Center Cebu Activity Center. The participants are advised to come to the venue early as the contest will promptly start at 1 p.m.
Over 30 high school students from 17 schools in Metro Cebu will vie for the top prizes amounting to P50,000 courtesy of Lamoiyan Corporation, the event’s chief corporate backer that produces proudly Filipino made Hapee Toothpaste.
The entries include Dan Clever T. Gigantone and Mark Anthony Esperida of the University of the Philippines Visayas-Cebu College, Rex Banggo and Johniel Lumapquid of Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School, Sheldon September Divera of Toledo City’s Magdugo National High School, Abby Niles Cuenco, Kevin Clyde Chu, Thomas Jude Yapjoco of Sacred Heart School-Jesuit, and Luis Miguel Maximo of Paref-Springdale.
Also joining are Wayne Justine Agramon, Tyrll Adolf Itong, and John Philip Corollo of Cebu Normal University, Jezreel Ezer Archival and Elinore Jean Malagar of the University of Cebu, France Kevin Degamo of Cebu City National Science High School, Gino Galicia and Charles Daniel Ting of Bright Academy, Mariano Valiente of Lapu-Lapu City’s Cansojong National High School, Geralyn Calvo of St. Alphonsus Catholic School , John Noah Manatad and James Christopher Autor of Mandaue City School for the Arts, Ricardo Cabigas, Jr. and Therese Mae Bilocura of Abellana National School, and Vien Janssen Gabriel and Jerome Dalauta, Jr. of Southwestern University.
Oranizers
The University of Southern Philippines Foundation , University of San Carlos -North Campus, and Don Bosco Technology Center are expected to field in two representatives each, even as some other schools have also expressed their desire to participate in the competition.
The organizers, led by SAC president John Z. Pages have increased the maximum number of entries to 40 on a first-come-first-served basis. All the participants are advised to wear their school uniforms and IDs.
In the contest proper, 10 questions will be given away per round and are classified into their degree of difficulty. Five points will be awarded to every correct answer in the easy round, 10 in the average, and 20 in the difficult level. The top 10 players will proceed to the final round where another set of 10 questions will determine the top performers.
The champion will receive an Asus Eee PC, while the second and third placers will get Nokia 7310 and 2680 phones, respectively. Philips Go Gear MP3 players will be handed out to the fourth and fifth finishers. Plaques of recognition will also be handed out to the schools of the top three winners.
Non-winners will not go home empty-handed as they will receive gift packs from Hapee. The audience will also have a chance to win some freebies such as Hapee basketballs if they can answer the question that will be thrown in between rounds.
