Neri: A Western bash By Nelia G. Neri Eve
IT was a Western Bash for Eddie Alegrados 70th birthday party at the Marco Polo Plaza grand ballroom, that night transformed into cowboy country. On centerstage was a replica of a western bar aptly named Eddie’s Saloon. With a wagon parked in one corner and western country music playing, the stage was set for a foray into the wild, wild west!
Looking youthful and dashing, Eddie was an authentic cowboy in his get-up: jeans, checkered shirt, boots, cowboy hat and all! He looked proud and ecstatic as he listened to the numbers presented by his grandchildren from his three sons, Clifford, Bernard and Dominic. Nicole, daughter of Dominic and Carla (Chiongbian), sang to her own guitar accompaniment, and so did her cousin Sabin, son of Bernard and Carla (Villamor). As for the the sons of Clifford and Gera (Climaco), Marco played the piano while Alfonso strummed the guitar and came up with the birthday melody.
Giving invaluable assistance in host duties was Ed’s special friend, Myrna Ngochua, who organized the dance numbers — a square dance participated in by Nena Young, Marilou Cańizares, Elsa Blanco and Flor Miel; and the sexy dance of the bar girls headlined by Myrna herself with Jane Llaban, Mariter Klepp, Debbie Limchiu, Betty Young and Lisa Young completing the group.
Eddie couldn’t escape the clamor for him to sing so he obliged with a Frank Sinatra favorite. Then it was dance time and the “dancerous” twirled and swirled to the music of the 8-Track Band who earlier in the day arrived from Manila with Ed’s good friends, Choy and Marissa Cojuangco, and Raffy and Gia Suarez.
Friends from way-back-when, present buddies, golf cronies, business associates and family were all there to wish Eddie the best.
