Baby found dead on bus seat, cord tied around neck

A NEW-born girl was found abandoned in a seat of a bus traveling from Cebu City to Badian town Friday night.

The doctor at the Badian District Hospital said the baby was intentionally killed as a cord that was part of her clothes was tied around her neck.

Liberato Surdilla, conductor of Librando Bus number 454, found the baby while he was checking the seats of the bus that was nearly empty as it was approaching Badian town proper at 7:30 p.m. It had left Cebu City hours earlier and most of the passengers had already gotten off.

When he passed by seat number 4, which was unoccupied, he noticed a yellow plastic bag.

Surdilla checked its contents only to find a female fetus and its placenta inside the bag. It was also wearing infant’s clothes.

He immediately alerted the bus driver, who sped towards the local police station.

PO3 Join Caballero of the Badian Police Station said they instructed the driver to rush to the hospital so the fetus could be inspected by physicians.

The attending doctor declared the fetus dead.

The doctor said the fetus was killed intentionally because of a cord found tied around its neck.

Caballero said the baby had been born just hours before she was found.
The baby was taken to the St. Ann Funeral Parlor.

Caballero said Mayor Carmencita Lumain arranged for the baby to be buried and paid for its coffin. (MEA)
