Robbers kill guard for only P250

A SECURITY guard was found dead inside the compound of the main office of a noodle (bihon) maker and distributor on B. Aranas St., Barangay San Nicolas Proper, Cebu City.

The Homicide Section and the Theft and Robbery Section (TRS) of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) are helping each other in investigating the incident, which they believe is a case of a robbery.

The company, N.S. Marketing, lost P250 cash, mostly coins, which were kept inside the drawer of the cashier’s table.

N.S. Marketing owned by Alfredo and Carlos Ngosiok holds office in B. Aranas St. while its plant is located in Barangay Lagtang, Talisay City, said PO1 Lou Pagara, one of the assigned homicide investigators.

The security guard was identified as Marlito N. Gelig, 37, married, of Figueroa St., San Nicolas Proper.

He worked with Misda Security Agency.

Gelig was found dead near the main gate of the compound.

He was lying on his back with stab wounds in the left side portion of his neck and in the buttock.

A pointed metal measuring about 12-inch long with bloodstains was found near Gelig’s body.

It was believed to be the instrument used by the suspect or suspects in killing the security guard.

The police also found a .38 revolver without bullets.

Thud

Two stay-in employees, Marcela Novo, 48, a cook, and Rosenie Cangas, 25, called up the police and informed their employer about the incident.

Both are helping the police in the investigation.

Initial information gathered by the Homicide Section team led by SPO1 Roger Nedamo showed that the incident happened at 12:45 a.m. yesterday.

Novo told investigators that she was inside her room at the second level of the office building when she heard a “thud” and a shout for help.

It took Novo, who was overcome with fear, an hour before he could go to the adjacent room, where Cangas stayed, and seek help in calling police hotline 166 and in informing their employer about the incident.

Responding teams from the Mobile Patrol Group, Homicide Section, Theft and Robbery Section and the Crime Scene Investigation Unit of CCPO found Gelig’s body near two motorcycles a few meters from the main gate.

Pagara said that Gelig was spotted by some nearby residents standing outside the gate minutes before the incident happened.

Policemen noticed shoeprints, which could have been from the suspects’ shoes, near Gelig’s body.

Pagara said Gelig may have been killed before the suspect/suspects headed to the office building.

Bloodstains were spotted in some areas inside the office.

Vault

Investigators, however, were baffled by the manner the suspects gained entry, as both doors leading to the office appeared closed.

But crime scene probers found fingerprints in one of the doorknobs.

The suspects, once inside the office, went to a room where the cash vault was kept.

Based on the appearance of the vault, particularly the partially damage lock, attempts were made to forcibly open it.

Investigators found fingerprints in a table near the vault.

Employer Winnie Limsui Ngosiok reported to homicide investigators that the suspects managed to take P250.

After the incident, several residents saw a man running away, prompting them to chase him and even to throw stones at him.

The residents, however, lost sight of the man who reportedly ran towards Figueroa St.

They also did not know where the man came from.

All pieces of evidence were submitted for examination while follow up investigation is being conducted by the homicide section and TRS. (JTG)
