Minglanilla takes Cluster 1 title
FORMER collegiate player, Angielove Cabiles got a chance to showcase her killer spikes when she steered Minglanilla to win the Cluster 1 title of the Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup for Women last weekend at their home court.
Cabiles recently graduated from the University of San Jose Recoletos, which she helped win a grandslam in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc.
This time, Cabiles anchored Minglanilla, which won the title after sweeping all of its assignments last weekend to end their bid with a 5-0 win-loss record.
Minglanilla exploited homecourt edge to oust Alcoy, 25-8, 25-11, Dalaguete, 25-15, 25-13 and Argao, 25-7, 25-9, last Saturday. They were equally dominant in the final day, where they pulled off easy wins over San Fernando, 25-9, 25-16 and Minglanilla, 25-15, 25-22.
Taking second place is Dalaguete with a 4-1 record after. It defeated Sibonga, San Fernando, Alcoy and an easy win over Argao.
Despite not having high profile collegiate stars on their roster, Dalaguete still managed to take the second place, which is enough for it to advance to the next phase of the competition.
The Top 2 teams in every cluster will move to the province-wide quarterfinal round.
The cluster winners will receive P10,000, while the overall champion team will get P100,000.
Next week, the Cluster 2-A will be played in Samboan. Since Cluster 2 has attracted the most number of teams, it will be divided into two sub-clusters played a week apart in Samboan this Saturday and Moalboal the weekend after. (MCB)
