Wednesday, October 01, 2008 USPF Under-21 sneaks in with 1-point win
THE UNIVERSITY of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Under-21 squad survived a thrilling game to beat the University of San Jose-Recoletos-Ave Maria Sanctuary Park, 73-72, in the 6th M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Under-21 Developmental Basketball League held at the Consolacion Sports Complex.
Ironically, it was former USJ-R Baby Jaguar Yves Oliver Unabia who sank the pressure-packed free throws that saved USPF under trainees from a crushing defeat.
With USJ-R under-trainees leading, 71-72, with only a few ticks left in the game, Unabia, frustrated his former teammates by showing his nerves of steel to sink the game winning free throws.
USJ-R/AMSP had the chance to steal the win but USPF put up a good defensive stop forcing JR Abing to miss his final attempt.
USPF now tied with USJ-R with 3-2 win in Bracket B.
In the other game, the Athletes for Christ through Excellent Service (ACES) smothered the University of the Visayas (UV)-Mandaue Academy, 85-68. (RCM)
