VICTOR Borge, a renowned pianist and conductor, combined his musical talent and his sense of humor as if music and comedy vowed to make a lovely couple.
His signature closing remarks after each acclaimed performance describe how gratifying his work is and that how a laughter and a tear make his job a rewarding one. And that it is okay if the rest of the rewards go to the tax collector.
When was the last time we have approached our work with fun?
When I was working as a sales representative with an airline company, I observed a fellow employee who, no matter the pressure, was always in gracious spirit.
One day, I asked her if she ever gets tired, bored and cranky at doing the same job every day and she graciously replied that she takes it one day at a time.
It did not matter whether or not it would take her more time to attend to customers as long as every single one of them was happy and satisfied.
While the rest are in such a rush to go home at closing time, she is patiently attending to a last-minute customer.
Noteworthy is what she wears between her ears—a smile. Yes, a smile, which is very rare at the end of the day when most of the employees are tired and anxious to go home.
“How are you able to do it?” I asked.
She then confided: “I always approach a day as if the good Lord were my Host.”
She has a point there because Scriptures from the Bible tell us that the Lord will not allow the beast to destroy the crops and the fields will not be barren by the Lord of Hosts.
We are His guests and He makes sure we are comfortable, safe and secure for He will never allow any mishaps. But if anything should go wrong, He has a good purpose.
One good example is how the Lord handled the situation in Canaan and the crowd that He fed with the fishes and loaves of bread. Believe me, miracles still do happen.
Let us be confident that the Lord has a standby generator. With smiles on our faces, it might be a good idea to fill our two empty bottles with invitations from the Lord of Hosts and RSVP Him for every situation and occasion.
