IT'S birthday time, and we’d like to wish beloved and respected physician/surgeon Dr. Miguel Pa. Mancao, known to all as Mike, a belated milestone (Monday, Sept. 29). He had a superb bash at the Casino Español.

Also a celebrator on the same day is the well-loved executive director of the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit (SHJ-J) Fr. Ernesto O. Javier, S.J., who marked his red-letter day at the sprawling, brand-new SHS-J Campus in Canduman, Mandaue. Many
happy returns, Father!

Zonta Club of Cebu 2 held a glittering induction ceremony at the Casino Español de Cebu, with Bangkok-based inducting officer, the multi-awarded and totally committed club woman district governor, Narudee Kiengsiri. To complete the array of VIP guests, they also invited lieutenant governor Georgitta “Beng” Puyat and area director Sandra Gomez from Manila.
It was a stirring valedictorian address that outgoing president Natividad “Betty” Young gave, and jokingly named her speech the “Zonta State of the Year Address”! Indeed, Betty has every reason to bask in pride and prestige, as her term (2006-2008) was a hyperactive year marked by charity involvement with the battered and beleaguered girls, and women of Cebu.
And visits to the two day care centers maintained by the club, among other civic projects. She also acknowledged her ever-supportive team!
Incoming president Elsa Basubas likewise delivered an acceptance message to continue with equal enthusiasm and dedication the vision and mission of Zonta International.
In closing, Betty distributed tokens of appreciation to members for “lighting up my life,” as we received candles in the form of a flower.

The Quota International of Cebu, the lead club, after “mothering” several baby clubs, held their installation of officers recently. It was held with a euphoric bash, not only to welcome the new board, led by president Loretta Calderon, but also to mark another successful Santacruzan.
The club’s coffers have swelled so much to better support their major beneficiary, the hearing-impaired children of Cebu.
Here’s something on the Gualandi Mission for the Deaf, the club’s beneficiary.
The organization was founded in Italy by Fr. Giuseppe Gualandi, and has houses in Italy, Brazil and the Philippines. It has the profound objective of evangelizing and educating the deaf.
Their mother house in Cebu is located at 5 Emerald Street, St. Michael Village, Banilad, Cebu City.
Quota involves itself with still other projects: three day care centers at Sawang Calero, San Jose and Guba. May your tribe increase and congrats to president Loretta and her stewards.
