Friday, October 03, 2008 Board to deliberate on Talisay’s next chief
A REGIONAL board will convene next week to decide on whom to assign as chief of the Talisay City Police Station.
Deputy Regional Director for Administration Chief Supt. Federico Terte, said yesterday that the Regional Senior Officers Placement and Promotions Board will search for five qualified officers and will submit their names to Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez.
Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Carmelo Valmoria said that under his office, he only has one officer who can be placed in the list.
He said there are other officers but they are not under his command. He said that when he submits his list to Fernandez, these officers should be ready to be released by their respective units in case they are chosen.
Policy
Talisay City is currently under the watch of Senior Insp. Jovito Canlapan. However, the PNP has a policy requiring city police stations to be headed by officers with the rank of superintendent.
Senior Supt. Vicente Loot, chief of the Regional Personnel and Human Resources Development Division, said they are in need of 40 officers with the rank of superintendent to comply with the national directive.
Aside from having officers of this rank to head city police stations, the station chiefs also serve as deputies to provincial directors, city directors and deputies to members of the regional command group.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Ronald Roderos said that currently, the regional offices in Calabarzon and the National Capital Region and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group are the police commands with more officers ranked superintendent.
He said the national office plans to assign these officers to other regional offices that lack the required number. (MEA)
