Talisay to enforce curfew next month

TO prevent minors from staying out beyond 10 p.m., the Talisay City Hall will implement its curfew ordinance starting next month.

Councilor Osmundo Manreal Jr. yesterday said the move is part of the city’s anti-crime prevention drive barring teenagers 18 years old and below from hanging out outside their residences past 10 p.m.

This followed reports that some of these minors have reportedly been engaging in illegal nocturnal activities such drugs use, fraternity hazing and prostitution.

But the curfew will cover only the 16 lowland barangays in Talisay, Manreal, also Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) president, said. The remaining six barangays are in the upland areas.

Tanods

Senior Insp. Jovito Canlapan, acting Talisay City Police Station chief, said policemen will back tanods in the barangays, he said.

Manreal said they initially agreed to use the sports complex in Tabunok as holding area for arrested violators of the ordinance.

He said City Social Welfare and Development personnel will man the holding area with the assistance of tanods and policemen.

In the meantime, the City Government will intensify its information campaign this month in relation to the curfew enforcement, he said.

The ABC, in its meeting today, will also finalize the policies in enforcing the curfew ordinance, Manreal said.

Early this year, Councilor Shirley Belleza called for the full implementation of the measure following the reported proliferation of prostitution in the city.

Belleza took the lead in conducting saturation drives that resulted in the apprehension of more than 10 female teenagers. (GC)
