Saturday, October 04, 2008 Barrita: Parade of suspects By Eddie O. Barrita Small Bites
PHILIPPINE National Police Director General Jesus Verzosa has ordered all police officers to stop the practice of parading arrested suspects to the media “firing squad style.”
So now, we won’t see the usual suspects again.
***
Crime suspects won’t have a chance anymore to land in the headlines in the newspapers and in the early evening news on TV.
No more 15 minutes of fame or shame for people wrongly accused but displayed as trophies in the war against crime.
***
Cebu City Police Office Director Patrocinio Comendador said presenting robbery suspects to the media may be necessary to help other victims know about their arrests.
Citizens should also be posted on the presence of armed and dangerous persons or escaped convicts.
***
Versoza also said police investigators who fail to prevent angry victims from hitting suspects in front of the media will be relieved and retrained.
Does this mean they won’t be disciplined if it’s done in the absence of the media?

Two persons, one of whom accused Joavan Fernandez of mauling him and the other of stealing her appliances, have filed
separate affidavits of desistance before the Talisay City Prosecutor’s Office.
Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez, Joavan’s father, was right after all---Joavan was protected by his guardian angel, who looked like Brod Soc.
***
Talisay City officials are set to implement next month their curfew ordinance barring teens 18 years old and below from
hanging outside of their residences past 10 p.m.
This should keep the teens away from Joavan’s harm.

It took the Commission on Audit (COA) two years to review the P579.3-million sale of Cebu City’s north reclamation area lots to Robinsons Land Inc.
This made Cebu City Mayor Tommy Osmeña mad.
He can be madder still if the same happens to Filinvest’s P2-billion purchase of 10 hectares of the South Road Properties.
