Saturday, October 04, 2008 USPF starts hunt for v’ball title
JUST how prepared the University of Southern Philippines Foundation for the title bid in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) volleyball competition is will be known today as it battles its perennial finals nemesis, the University of San Jose- Recoletos today at the University of the Visayas gym.
Today, the two teams rekindle their rivalry as they take on each other in the curtain-raiser at 8 a.m.
USPF looks to shake off the stigma of its three consecutive bridesmaid’s finishes in the finals, having been victims in USJ-R’s grandslam feat.
Last week, USJ-R managed to post two victories in lopsided fashions owing to a strengthened lineup. Anchored by new captain Genie Sabas, USJ-R went on to win over University of San Carlos and University of the Visayas.
USPF of coach Jordan Paca, currently has one victory as it defeated USC in four sets in its lone game last weekend at their home turf.
USPF failed to retain the services of its star high school player Danika Gendrauli, who is now playing for another team.
However, it will be bannered by players, who have seen their fair share of experiences in the Palarong Pambansa.
Aside from this, USPF recently got the services of former RP team member Thelma Datig to take care of their training.
Meanwhile, after incurring two losses, USC looks to strike back as it is set to face University of Cebu this morning, after Cebu Doctors University and UV take on each other in the other match.
In the afternoon, defending men’s champion USC will try to fortify its lead when it faces UV. USC currently has a 2-0 win-loss record after defeating CDU and Cebu Institute of Technology last week.
Last year’s runnerup USPF will battle CDU, while UC takes on CIT. (MCB)
