Drive-by shootings hit 3

THREE men on a motorcycle went on a shooting spree at dawn yesterday, wounding three men in two sitios of Barangay Poblacion, Talisay City.

In the first incident, Ricky Mateo, 20, and Ian Cabahug, 24, were wounded. Police identified the third victim as Mont Gumere Bacastigue, 17.

The three men who allegedly attacked without provocation were identified by an eyewitness as Glenn del Rosario, Gerald Tradio and Raymund Sayson, all of Barangay Cansojong.

PO2 Harrison Quiña-nola, homicide investigator of the Talisay City Police Station, said he could not yet say what the motive of the attack was because there was no connection between the victims of the first shooting with the lone victim of the second shooting.

Mateo and Cabahug were with their friends and were on their way home in Sitio Litmon at 1:50 a.m. when the three men on a motorcycle appeared out of nowhere and immediately began firing at them.

Trio at large

Mateo suffered a gunshot wound in the left wrist and the bullet went through his elbow, while Cabahug was wounded in the back.

Just minutes later, the motorcycle was spotted in the neighboring sitio of Miramar. One of the three passengers then allegedly shot at Bacastigue, who was wounded in the right shoulder.

A manhunt was launched for the motorcycle riders, but police failed to locate them.

Quiñanola said del Rosario was once involved in a shooting incident.

However, his mother called up the police to deny her son’s involvement in the drive-by shooting. Del Rosario’s mother told Quiñanola that her son was sleeping at their house when the shooting took place.

She also said her son was willing to undergo a paraffin test. Quiñanola, though, said that even if he was willing to be tested for gunpowder burns, only one of the three men aboard the motorcycle could have fired at the victims.

He explained that even if del Rosario’s paraffin test yielded a negative result, it would not disprove he was involved in the shooting.

Quiñanola said that he still has to talk to the victims to see if they can identify any of the three men identified by the eyewitness. (MEA)
