Monday, October 06, 2008 Refusing to pick fight, man gets stabbed by irked drunk in store
TWO people were wounded in separate stabbing incidents, both caused by personal grudge in Barangays Punta Engano and Poblacion in Lapu-Lapu City last Saturday night.
Both were brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) for serious injuries.
In Poblacion, the attacked took place inside a store where victim Paul Cotanas, 20, was drinking with two friends. They were teasing each other when a bystander and alleged drug dependent Michael Fidel came.
Fidel, who also smelled of liquor, challenged Cota-nas and his companions to a fistfight. Ignored, he became angrier. He sneaked behind Cotanas and stabbed him twice in the back.
Onlookers called for help from the police station less than a hundred meters from the store, but Fidel had already fled.
In Punta Engaño, a fistfight preceded the stabbing of Allan Serencio, 29, in the forehead and hands.
A hard punch coming from Serencio brought Christoper Binigay, 19, in the ground. He stood up and went home in Sitio Malingin. Minutes later, he came back accompanied by Allan Nuñez.
By that time, Serencio was drinking with a friend in front a small store.
Homicide investigator SPO1 Federick Eslet said Binigay and Nuñez attacked Serencio with a knife, but with some skills in martial arts, Serencio was able to defend himself until neighbors came to help.
Binigay and Nuñez fled as people came.
Homicide investigator SPO1 Federick Eslet said both victims received treatment at the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital before they were transferred to VSMMC in Cebu City. (AIV)
