Boljoon tops Cluster 2A of GUV Cup

BOLJOON won all of its games yesterday to claim the Cluster 2-A title of the Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup for Women, yesterday in Samboan

Behind the leadership of new team captain Rusel Hernani, Boljoon won all five of its games over Oslob, Santander, Samboan, Ginatilan and Malabuyoc.

However, this is not the end of Boljoon’s journey as they need to battle the top team in Cluster 2B next week in Moalboal to determine who gets the P20,000 top purse

No matter what the outcome next week might be, Boljoon is already assured of a slot to the province-wide quarterfinal round set later this year.

Finishing second place yesterday was Malabuyoc, which finished with a 4-1 win-loss record, while Oslob was at third with 2-3.

Boljoon was the cluster champion in 2005 and after several failed attempts, Boljoon finally gets another shot at winning the cluster title again.

The team banked on the impressive spikes of Hernani, a former college varsity of Southwestern University whom they missed last year. Also helping her out were Beverly Mae Bequilla and Marife dela Cerna.

Hernani, who has taken residency in Boljoon, provided the team’s muscles for the win. Hernani was also responsible for scouting the different high schools to come up with a strong team. (MCB)
