Sabal rules Friendship run

CRESENCIANO Sabal ended the rule of Davaoeño Elmer Bartolo in Cebu’s running circuit as the 29-year-old long distance runner won the Friendship Run 2 at the Cebu Business Park yesterday.

Sabal, who is from Sultan Kudarat, finished the race in 31 minutes and 38.956 seconds.

On the other hand, Bartolo, who won the last two races in Cebu, finished almost a minute behind Sabal at 32:37.860, while Cebuano Riez Enriquez came in third at 33:45.618.

Aileen Tolentino of Cagayan de Oro also took first place over Cebu’s top woman runner Liezl Getaruel in the Women’s 10K Open race at 39 minutes and 37.013 seconds.

Getaruelas finished the race at 40:11.159, while Madelyn Carter was third at 41:37.320.

Completing the fourth to 10th finishers in the Men’s Open class were Eugene Delposo, Ian Bernido, Ramie Lawas, Jeppy Lumongsod, Jude Rivera, Elvin Rey Flores and Garry Garcia.

On the other hand, those who made it to the top 10 of the women’s class were Pearl Beronia, Dennis Joy Tan, Brenda Portugalisa, Jade Gorre and Melina Ignacio, for the 4th to 8th places respectively.

Meanwhile, John Philipp Dueñas won the 5K Men’s race at 16 minutes and 29.69 seconds, with Mendel Lopez and Joel Delposo at second and third, respectively.
The top three finishers in the women’s side were Mary Jane Beboso (21:22.875), Joyry Lee (21:26.395) and Merlita Arias (22:01.379).

Rey Duque also ruled the Executive Runner Division, finishing ahead of Dionesio Genosa, Joseph Burt Cañete, Dr. Yong Larrazabal and Joie Nuñez. (RCM)
