Global leaders to speak at int’l MAP meeting

WHILE the economic crisis continues to play out in the world stage, nations and businesses must adopt to the “new rules of engagement” and think of a more collaborative response to global challenges.

Renowned local and global business leaders will present strategic responses to the current economic crisis and these “new rules” at the 7th Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) International CEO Conference at the Makati Shangri-La starting today.

This year’s two-day conference theme—“The Competitiveness Imperatives: Create! Innovate! Shape!”—looks at three levels of strategic response to the current economic crisis: at the global, national and regional, and enterprise levels.

“This conference brings together speakers who have had extensive experience in global, regional, and national economic and financial management. This will give participants a ringside view of the emergent challenges in the global business arena,” said MAP president Ed Chua, also country chair of Shell Companies in the Philippines.

Leading this year’s renowned roster of speakers is Michel Camdessus, former managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), who has had first-hand experience in crafting economic strategies for nations and dealing with “overlapping vital interests.”

Several speakers will share their insights on the growing dominance of China and India in the world economy, and the opportunities this trend offers to business. These include: Harinder Kohli, chief executive of the Emerging Markets Forum; Dato Paduka Timothy Ong, chair of Asia Inc. Forum; and Dr. Dennis Tai Lun Sun, President of the Asian Association of Management Organization (AAMO); and Kevin Hogan, Chief Distribution Officer of AIG. Rajat Nag, managing director of the Asian Development Bank, will show how private-sector initiatives can fuel regional growth amid rising globalization.

The list of speakers from the Philippines includes: Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala II of the Ayala Group; Philam Group chair and former Central Bank governor Jose Cuisia, Jr.; Alaska Milk Corp. president and CEO Wilfredo Uytengsu, Jr.; and Federico Lopez, president and CEO of First Gas Power Corp. (PR)
