Pecandela, N’woods win in IBP hoops semis

PECANDELA Law Office and Northwoods pulled through with separate convincing victories at the start of the semifinal round of the 2008 IBP Cebu Basketball tournament last Saturday at the Capitol Parish Gym last Saturday.

Pecandela gamely engaged the Eagles in a brisk exchange of baskets in the opening quarter before tightening its defensive screws in the second en- route to a 62-42 win.

Northwoods, on the other hand, played with just enough aggressiveness to down the combined Mandaue/Lapu-Lapu practioners 71-64.

Pecandela stretched a slim 17-12 lead after the first quarter to an 11-point lead after the first half after holding the Eagles to just six points in the second quarter.

The Eagles never recovered from there and Pecandela went on to tally its first win in the round-robin semifinals.

Meanwhile, Fermin Pepito proved to be the most unstoppable and dominating among the playing lawyers as he again logged 26 points to lead top seed Northwoods to victory.

Despite the effort of Richard Bauzon, Mandaue/Lapu-Lapu lawyers failed to counter the aggressive game of Northwoods who had Ramsey Quijano making his first scoring breakout in the competition.

Northwoods (71)—F. Pepito 26, R. Quijano 10, Ibones 8, Garcia 8, B. Pepito 7, Da Luz 6, Heyrosa 2, Fernandez 2, Santiago 2. Man/Lap (64)—Bauzon 27, Ceniza 11, Bragat 9, Dumon 6, Yusores 6, Amores 3, Montealegre 2. (RCM)
