CTS forges partnerships to provide quality education

POISED to provide alternative education through technical and vocational training, College of Technological Sciences(CTS) intends to be more sensitive to the demands of the industry by forging partnerships and linkages.

“CTS is always keen to the demand of the market. In fact, we created an industry linkage office that corresponds with our approximately 150 corporate partners,” said Jose Mari Bigornia, CTS president.

CTS started operations in 1951, the only technological school in Cebu still existing after its peers closed operations.

During that time, CTS strength lie in its General Radio Communication Operator program, with graduates passing international license standards, providing Cebu broadcast companies with competent technicians and professional radio operators.

Currently, CTS redirects the program to Electronic Communication Technician to meet the demands of the industry.

In 2007, CTS inked pact with Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation Inc., allowing Toyota to provide CTS the necessary equipment to be utilized for training like automotive parts, engine simulators, technical books and faculty training in Toyota plants.

In turn, Toyota will get prospective employees from CTS graduates who are competently trained.

“As you see, 40 percent of student’s knowledge and basic skills are taught in school, 60 percent of that is acquired in the industry through experience. With that, we allow our students to get as much exposure in the industry depending on what field they are in,” Bigornia said.

CTS’ other major partners include ABS-CBN, Aboitiz Construction Group, APO Cement Corporation, Cebu Ports Authority, Cokaliong Shipping, Globe Telecom, GMA-7 Cebu, Lexmark Internation, National Telecommunications Corporation, Pepsi Cola Products Philippines Inc., Philippine Airlines, PLDT and RPN-9.

CTS offers one to two year course programs in Automotive Technology, Electrical Technology and Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Course among many other courses accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) allowing students’ to take corresponding TESDA Competency Assessments.

Furthermore, the school also offers four and five year baccalaureate courses in Electronics and Communications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automotive Technology and Nursing. CTS also offers Certified Practical Nursing program.

Bigornia said that “we see to it that what we are offering matches the need of the industry.”

CTS campus is located at N. Bacalso Ave., Sambag 1, Ceby City. (JSC)
