Thursday, October 09, 2008 Food tripping in Hongkong By Myra Isabel Magsaysay Sun
ST. Theresa’s College high school class of 1973 bonded in Hong Kong organized by the indefatigable Marissa Fernan.
Feasting, binging and gorging on dimsum cravings and delighting in each other’s friendships were top on the list.
Hong Kong’s cuisine is famous for the exotic fusion of Eastern and Western flavors with a wide variety of culinary specialties. Hong Kong is known to be a “Gourmet Paradise”. Many of its districts boast of a unique ambience and selection of food.
Hong Kong’s more than 9,000 restaurants offer almost everything under the sun. The first food district is Causeway Bay.
Great food is available throughout the territory and there are many budget eateries that offer local snacks. This can be found in Jardine’s Bazaar, Tang Lung and Matheson Streets. Sushi parlors and bars and other good eateries are found along Sunning Road.
Kowloon city is a treasure-trove of Asian cuisine and international eateries.
Local desserts and an inexpensive array of Southeast Asian and Cantonese dishes are served in this district. The Lan Kwai Fong and Soho districts boast of their “World Cuisine”, here you can find Middle Eastern, French and American food.
The Coral Jubiliarians were treated to a Peking duck feast in Yung Kee Restaurant in the central district of Hong Kong by Marissa Fernan. Women on fire, they all learned tolerance and understanding in order to appreciate one another. Mouth- watering steamed pork buns, shrimp dumplings, beef balls and pan- fried squid with spicy salt are just some of the local favorites.
No trip to Hong Kong would be complete without tasting these delights served in bamboo baskets.
