Also to coincide with the worldwide German Oktoberfest, Marco Polo Plaza Hotel (MPPH) will reel off with its own beer fest on Oct. 10 and 11 (Friday/Saturday).
So successful and now on its third year, the world-famous Bavarian Sound Express, will reverb the venue with authentic oompah music.
Making the event more memorable is a fair of German, European and Cebuano products and businesses brought together by the European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (ECCP). To join, please call ECCP at (032) 253-3387 or 254-3767.
Here’s more: a German Food Fest will delight sausage and sauerkraut lovers when MPPH will bring you still another culinary journey from Oct. 1-14 at Café Marco.

With its streamlined, high-tech, and environmentally-friendly design, the ultra-modern Insular Life Assurance Co. Ltd. (IL) building will soon join the new pulsating business skyline at Cebu Business Park.
Ground-breaking ceremonies were held on a prestigious date (08-08-08) to augur well for a healthy business climate. Mid-morning rites had VIPs Vicente R. Ayllon, chairman of the board and CEO of Insular Life Assurance Co. Ltd., and company stalwarts, with no less than the Insurance commissioner Ed Malinis as guests of honor. Lending their official flair to the
event were Congressman Raul Del Mar, and Vice Mayor Michael “Mike” Rama.
With the ever-expanding products IL is famous for, someone asked: “Why is it that insurance coverage as well as health benefits automatically stop when one reaches 65? People at this age group, precisely need this type of benefit.”
We leave this challenge to the company. Any comment, Mr. Mayo Jose Ongsingco?
Top unit managers and district sales managers also milled about, basking in the glory of the occasion, before a sumptuous lunch awaited them at Laguna Garden Café.
Toasts to Insular Life! More challenges lie ahead!

A September affair was chosen by Bank of Commerce (BOC) when they blessed their Cebu Ayala Branch recently, with an impressive list of sponsors: Mr. and Mrs. Ricarido King; Atty. and Mrs. Ernesto Limkakeng; Atty. Augusto Go and Dr. Frances de la Serna, JJ B. Atencio, landlord of BOC, and Cecille Cifra-Siao, a businesswoman.
Being a mid-afternoon affair, tents were set up with dinner tables below.
Blessing was done by Msgr. Achilles Dakay amid cheers from Manila VIPs, among them: Bank of Commerce president Raul de Mesa; Atty. Francisco Rodrigo, Ambassador Raul Rabe (both directors); Art Manuel, Ret. Gen. Propero C. Noble, Anne Nieva, Noel Cortez for corporate communication, Suzanne Cruz and Fred Bumagat.
It was an occasion to connect to an old friend, Mely Cabrera Ybańez and hubby, Boy, parents of the bank’s business manager, the charming Yvette Ybańez-Cloma.
The bank’s all-women executives seem to suggest that the best man for the job — is a woman! Right, Yvette!
