Thursday, October 09, 2008 DTCC to hold for barangay contest
FOR Dancesport Team Cebu City (DTCC), it is not enough to teach the craft of dancesport.
After its widely-acclaimed efforts of bringing dancesport into the barangays, DTCC now takes another step as a follow though to their year-round Dancesport sa Barangay program.
In the barangay-based program, DTCC have gone to different barangays, including in far-off mountain barangays, to teach the sport to kids for free.
It started with summer workshops and weekend classes for the barangays across the city, until it became a yearlong program.
Now, after disseminating the craft to a lot of kids, the group decided it is time for to showcase what they have learned in the barangay competitions, which will also be done for an entire year.
The event, dubbed the Go Ching Hai Martina Cup and ML Kwarta Padala Cup Barangay Competitions will kick off at the Pardo Sports Complex this weekend.
“It will be done the whole year round until all barangays in Cebu City are covered,” said DTCC director Edward Hayco.
Next week, the competitions will be held in Barangay Apas and Mambaling the week after that.
Each event will have a closed competition exclusive for host barangay residents. There will also be an open competition for south and north district residents.
The entrance to the venues is free and this program is a project of the Cebu City Government, Sangguniang Kabataan, and is supported by Go Ching Hai Martina Foundation and ML Kwarta Padala. (MCB)
